I was hoping people could contribute the names (and country) of their favorite, inexpensive wines, let’s say $7-$22…..
I am particularly interested in Pinot Noir, Sauvignon Blanc, and Pinot Grigio….but please post your favorites (with their estimated prices) for all types of grapes!
I’m something of a Riesling whore, so most of my favourites revolve around that bias.

I’ll second the Pelee Island Pinot Gris – actually, I’ve never had a Pelee Island wine I didn’t enjoy.

Yellow Tail Cab Sav (Australian) – $12
Yellow Tail is not a favourite of most people (I have one friend who always rants amount the of tannin in Australian wines whenever I get a glass), but there’s always a bottle open at my mom’s, so that might be why I like it so much. Reminds me of home.
The German white wines should be rated top. Above all Riesling, then “Weißburgunder” (pinot blanc) and Grauburgunder (pinot gris). For red wines Italian wines are not to be underestimated, try the nerodávoloa from Sicily, an excellent wine with a good pricing.
I really enjoy the Oyster Bay Sauvignon Blanc. I think it is around $18.
I agree regarding Nero d’Avola. I discovered it when visiting Sicily. It is very full bodied and usually very cheap. Great simple wine for every day drinking.
If anyone can recommend a good sparkling wine/champagne that is not expensive that would be much appreciated!

In the U.S. you can get it for $9-$11 a bottle. It is a dry, but very light sparkling wine. It isn’t fancy, but at that price you can drink it anytime. It is particulary tasty after dinner. If you can’t find that one, I have had other Proseccos that are also very good for a cheap price. If you get to try it, let me know what you think!
If you want a sweet sparkling dessert wine, Mionetto IL Moscato is very good too.

When I go into my grocery store – Kroger – I have succombed to American Chardonnays; my wife thinks that they are too bitter, so I dive into the Riesling aisle.
I’ve heard Shiraz is a pretty good wine…what do you think about that one?
